KPN drops RomTelecom bid
Article Abstract:
Koninklijke PTT Nederland (KPN) is backing out of its bid to acquire a strategic stake in state-owned Romanian telephone company RomTelecom SA. That leaves Telecom Italia SpA alone in bidding against a consortium of Hellenic Telecommunications Organization SA of Greece and SBC Communications of the US for a 35% stake in RomTelecom. Telecom Italia will proceed with the bid, said a company spokesman. KPN spokeswoman Mieke Plaschek said the company is withdrawing because of concerns about the timing for a return on investment, among others.
