THOMSON PLANS Rs250 CRORE EXPANSION

Thomson Consumer Electronics India Limited (TCEIL) proposes to invest Rs250 crore for its expansion plan during the next five years. It proposes to increase its product portfolio and expand its production facilities. TCEIL is likely to invest about Rs50 crore during 1998. It plans to double its colour television (TVs) sales to 2.80 lakh by 2000 AD (1.40 lakh sets during 1997). TCEIL proposes to export 29 inch colour TVs to the Asian markets from 1999. (ag)

EENADU PUTS OFF KANNADA CHANNEL PLAN
Article Abstract:
Eenadu Television has shelved its plan to launch the Kannada channel for the time being. It had initially planned to launch a Kannada channel, Cauvery, in the beginning of 1999. The launch may now take place during September-October 1999. Eenadu Television's future plans depend on the norms of the Broadcast Bill to be introduced by the Government. Plans for opening Bengali, Tamil, Gujarati and another regional language channels have also been put off. (gs)
