Kashmir again
Article Abstract:
India and Pakistan are in conflict over Kashmir, with the India air force seeking to remove militants supported by Pakistan from the Indian side of the de facto border in Kashmir. Both sides claim that they seek peace, yet are unwilling to compromise. Muslims in Pakistan appear mainly to want independence from both India and Pakistan, and India needs to develop a legitimate image in Kashmir. India policing can be brutal in Kashmir, where there is a literacy rate that is below average for India. India could develop a dialog with Kashmiri separatists, which would help to ease tensions.

Kashmir's violent spring
Article Abstract:
A dispute has arisen between India and Pakistan over Kashmir and there is a danger that it could escalate into war. India claims that militants entered the Indian part of Kashmir, in contravention of an agreement of 1972. India sees Pakistan as behind this conquest. Pakistan denies this and argues that India is killing civilians through uncontrolled shelling. There is speculation that Pakistan may be hoping for international intervention in this conflict.
