A prickly pair
Article Abstract:
Singapore and Malaysia were once part of a federation, but Singapore was expelled, and came to be a prosperous city state. Malaysia has seen the development of an opposition group around former finance minister, Anwar Ibrahim, who has been jailed. Prime minister, Mahathir Mohamad, achieved a majority in elections in 1999, but the Malay vote has been split. Singapore appears to be loosening political control, and offers a professional, honest administration as well as a work force that is efficient and highly trained.
