Web companies aim to protect kids

A number of Internet-based Canadian companies have banded together in an effort to protect children from unscrupulous online marketers. The group, headed by Montreal, Quebec-based Parents d'aujourd'hui general manager Martyne Huot, aims to have a system in place by Oct 2000, when the pre- Christmas e-commerce period begins. The companies hope to prevent online marketers from collecting personal information from children under the age of 13.

P&G's Penner laments regulations

Procter and Gamble Canada Pres Tim Penner believes that over-regulation continues to hinder the marketing of consumer goods in Canada. In a speech delivered at McGill University, Penner said that a number of present government restrictions should have been eliminated after the signing of NAFTA. Penner stressed that differences in regulations between trading countries hinders the occurrence of free trade and discourages exports.
