Germany's Free Democrats party may split up because of internal clashes between conservatives and liberals. This would weaken the power of Helmut Kohl, who would have to form a coalition with Social Democrats to regain power. Party leader Klaus Kinkel is partly to blame for this unrest.

Chancellor Helmut Kohl has not provided the leadership Germany needs. Bands of skinheads roam the streets and bother refugees, and a crackdown is badly needed. The subsidies required of western Germany to bring easterners into the economic fold are great and need better coordination.
