Thailand's prime minister Anand Panyarachun demoted several senior military leaders involved in the murder of more than 50 pro-democracy demonstrators. More corrupt officials should be held accountable if Thailand is to foster economic growth through its relations with foreign countries.

Anand takes a sweep for democracy
Article Abstract:
Part of the democratic reforms initiated by civilian prime minister Anand Panyarachun involve cutbacks in the armed forces, including dismissing some powerful generals. The generals led a coup in May which led to military rule. Recently the government has been becoming more democratic.

Thailand's day of the angels
Article Abstract:
Pro-democracy forces won the elections by a slim margin in Thailand. The anti-military parties in parliament have formed a coalition know as "angelic" by the voters. The old regime still has many supporters who were re-elected.
