Kirch/Murdoch pay-TV services faces uphill fight for ads
Article Abstract:
The link up between BSkyB and Kirch Group of Germany to introduce a digital pay-TV service in Germany, has surprised Germany media buyers. BSkyB will take a share in Kirch's DF1 which will not run commercials during films, only at the beginning and end. Children's programmes will also not be interrupted by commercials. Chairman of Zenith Germany, Jens Putze, believes it will be difficult to attract advertisers.

CNBC has introduced a 24-hour television news channel in Europe, which is expected to reach 7.2 million homes. Swissair is one of eleven charter advertisers which over the next 4-6 weeks alone are expected to spend $0.8 million. Others include DHL, Union Bank of Switzerland, Peugeot, The Financial Times, General Electric and the International Herald Tribune. The CNBC programming is to run on NBC Superchannel.
