Kodak sells private-label film in Japan
Article Abstract:
Kodak's Japanese operation is using private-labeling as a tool for capturing market share away from rival Fuji Photo Film Co. Kodak announced that it was manufacturing private-label film for the 2,500-outlet Japanese Consumer Cooperative Union. The company had long eschewed private labeling in the belief that such a strategy would only take sales away from Kodak products. However, stagnant sales have convinced Kodak officials that private labeling will allow them to obtain an important channel for its products.

Seeking to avert another trade war, U.S. refers Kodak complaint to WTO
Article Abstract:
The Clinton administration has decided to allow the World Trade Organization (WTO) to deliberate on a trade complaint filed by Eastman Kodak Co. against Japan and Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd. Government and trade agencies lauded the decision since it will avert a possible trade war between the two nations and would show the US's commitment to the WTO. However, critics warned that the WTO does not have definitive rules in deliberating over complaints against competition policy.
