Korea says it's assertive, not defiant, in ongoing trade dispute with U.S

The South Korean government stated that it will pursue an assertive stance accommodate reasonable complaints and not worry about being considered defiant in ongoing trade disputes with the US. The trade dispute stems from US accusations that South Korea is imposing nontariff barriers which discourage import of agricultural goods, computer software and telecommunications equipments imports. Analysts noted that South Korea's stand on the trade disputes will adversely affect the country's chances of gaining membership into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and bolster its reputation as an 'unpredictable business partner.'

U.S., Seoul are at odds over aid to North Korea
Article Abstract:
The famine in North Korea due to the flooding and severe winter conditions has become a bone of contention between the US, which was in favor of extending humanitarian aid to the beleaguered country, and South Korea, which disapproved such aid to its bitter rival. The US has initially donated around $225,000 through the UN. Nonetheless, it is wary of upsetting South Korea and incurring criticism from opposition parties at home and thus, has not followed through with additional help.
