LIC LIFE FUND CROSSES Rs1 LAKH CR
Article Abstract:
The Life Fund of the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) increased by 20.59 percent to Rs105,832.89 crore in 1997-98. The total premium income of LIC increased by 18.55 percent to Rs19,252.07 crore. Its investment income increased by 20.23 percent to Rs11,296.32 crore. Total income increased by 19.02 percent to Rs30,732.60 crore. The total claim settlement increased by 16.61 percent to Rs6,673.07 crore. Sales of individual new policies increased by 8.45 percent to Rs133.11 lakh. Coverage under pension and group schemes increased by 13 percent to over 10.66 lakh. (vv)

SOUTH CENTRAL LIC POSTS 4.6% GROWTH IN POLICIES

Life Insurance Corporation's south central zone has reported a 4.68 percent growth in policies to 2,132,963 during 1997-98 (2,037,512 policies in 1996-97). During this period, the sum assured grew by 9.92 percent to Rs9,040 crore (Rs8,224 crore). The first premium grew by 11.20 percent to Rs264 crore (Rs237 crore). The zone targets a 13 percent growth in its new policies, 10 percent rise in the sum assured and a 20 percent growth in the first premium during 1998-99. (ag)

The first premium income of the south central zone of the Life Insurance Corporation has increased by 30.37 percent to Rs150 crore in the nine months ended December 1998 against Rs115.08 crore in the nine months ended December 1997. The total number of policies increased by 18.25 percent to 1,242,483 from 1,050,689. The south central zone, which covers Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, increased sum assured by 25.11 percent to Rs5,176.13 crore from Rs4,137.28 crore. (khr)
