LOKESH MACHINES TO TIE UP WITH GERMAN CO FOR MACHINING CENTRES

Lokesh Machines Limited of Hyderabad has entered into a technology tie-up with Grob-Werke GmbH of Germany for the latest technology to produce world-class horizontal machining centres. It will start commercial production in March 1999. The horizontal machining centres will be sold at economical prices in India. It plans to launch high-speed machining and turning centres in India. It is engaged in the machining works for the automobile and defence sectors. (rk) (kvr)

Many Swiss and Japanese firms have plans of entering into the Indian watches market as the government of India has opened up the market to foreign competition. These firms are aiming at the urban upmarket Indians. Currently, the penetration of the watches in India is around four per hundred people. The organised sector accounts for 14 million pieces (35 percent) while the grey market accounts for 26 million pieces (65 percent). (ag)
