LW155 development program goes international
Article Abstract:
The defense administrations of the UK, US and Italy are expected to sign a trilateral memorandum of understanding (MoU) in October 1998 involving their participation in the engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) phase of the US XM777 Lightweight 155mm (LW155) howitzer. A bilateral agreement between US and UK has already been sealed since mid-August 1998 and the next contract will serve as an extension of that understanding, which lays out terms of UK Ministry of Defence's participation in the project. The US-UK bilateral agreement calls for the UK Defence Ministry's Defence Evaluation and Research Agency (DERA) to oversee destructive test work with one of eight EMD guns.

US Army considers revolutionary lightweight tank
Article Abstract:
The Future Combat Vehicle, or FCV, of the US Army may be limited to a carrying capacity of 25 tonnes or less. The US Army was reportedly taking the move into consideration due to insufficient capacity for airlifting and cuts in the force structure. The FCV, which is a component of the structure proposed under the Army After Next initiative, is earmarked as the Abrams main battle tank's substitute between the years 2020 and 2015. The planned reduction in the weight limit of the FCV was also attributed to the 25-tonne carried-weight ceiling of the tactical C-130 transport aircraft's loading ramp.
