'Mature' Rayo inches towards qualification
Article Abstract:
FAMAE Ordnance is advancing the development of the Rayo 160mm artilley rocket system on the MAN SX2000 6X6 fire unit vehicle with qualification firings, after the vehicle completed over 8,000km of travel which was mostly performed across country. The qualification firings will be done under three phases including testing of single rockets, firings from the 12-round box launcher and shots from the launcher mounted on the vehicle carrying two of the pods, to be followed by warhead firings. The company, which is a joint venture between Chilean government-owned FAMAE ordnance and British Aerospace's Royal Ordnance unit, will initially offer the basic 43.5kg high-explosive warhead.

Israel Military Industries expands LAR rocket-system family
Article Abstract:
Israel Military Industries (IMI) is expanding the LAR 160mm light artillery rocket system that upgrades existing Russian-designed Splav BM-21 Grad fire units by developing the GradLAR, as well exploring the potentials of a shipborne variant called NavLAR. The new GradLAR is being developed by modifying the existing vehicle mounts to allow the platform to accommodate either the standard Grad launcher or a pair of 13-round LAR pods. The new launchers being improved on by IMI are capable of firing standard LAR rounds or the company's new AccuLAR derivative, which contains a Trajectory Control System (TCS).

'Earth Angel' system expands reach of Croatian mine clearance
Article Abstract:
Dok-Ing of Zagreb, Croatia, has developed an MV-2 remote-controlled vehicle for anti-personnel mine clearance. Called 'Earth Angel,' the all- terrain, miniature vehicle can be used to eliminate mines on gradients as steep as 45 degrees. Its makers said Earth Angel is not all-purpose minesweeper, but rather should be used as a preparatory device to pave the way for manual or dog-based clearance operations.
