La Fondation de France tudie la g n rosit des entreprises
Article Abstract:
A study by the Fondation de France, which gained access to the Tax Offices books for the first time, makes it possible to calculate the donations made by companies to works or organisations of public interest. Between 1987 and 1993 the donations averaged FFr 83.539, up 8.5%. These figures do not include the material assistance which a company may offer, since that is not considered as a donation. The amount of gives appears to be well below that which is authorised by the tax office (2.25/1000 of pre-tax turnover). According to this study, the biggest companies give the least. The companies appear to favour local associations rather than institutions. The insurers and the financial organisations are the most generous with an average donation of between FFr 600,000 and FFr 1mn. The companies in the food sector are the most miserly. Although they give more often the average donation from this sector is FFr 20,000.

Les ordinateurs portables toujours handicap s par leur prix
Article Abstract:
Sales of portable computers are inhibited because they are too expensive. Costing on average FFr 14,500, a portable computer is twice as expensive as a standard office computer. According to the US researchers IDC, the price of a portable in the year 2001 should not be more than FFr 12,310. IDC also predicts a 14.8% rise in sales in 1998 (1996-97 progression was 9.2%), yet in 1999 the growth in sales will weaken due to high prices. *
