Labour's comeback

The Labor Party is slightly ahead of the Conservative Party in the polls. This is due to the indecisiveness of Conservatives in dealing with the worsening economy. Shadow chancellor John Smith will have to face the dilemma of finding a way to finance Labor's promise for higher pensions and other proposals.

Labour and the poor: what can a modern left-of-centre government do to alleviate poverty?
Article Abstract:
Conservative governments have been voted into office since 1979 in the UK, and the general perception is that there are more poor people and that they are worse off as a result. This belief is expected to lead to a Labor Party victory in the next election. Possible anti-poverty measures are discussed.
