Lauding the capital
Article Abstract:
Newly appointed working peer, Lord Rogers of Riverside, will pursue his work on improving London architecture within the House of Lords. Rogers, a well respected architect, believes that changes to public areas and facilities within the city, such as the provision of bicycle lanes and parks, could transform its cultural and social character. He has actively pursued this dream for many years as the deputy chairman of the Arts Council and the chairman of the Architecture Foundation.

Natural born engineer
Article Abstract:
Bryn Bird is a partner at one of the U.K.'s most prestigious structural engineering companies, Whitby and Bird. Bird sees the 19th century as the golden age of engineering, nurturing personalities such as Stephenson and Brunel. He believes that engineering in the 20th century has become deprived of the freedom to express and experiment. As a structural engineer, Bird believes that modern engineering puts an excessive strain on environmental resources and is wasteful of energy.
