Libya and the bombed airliners
Article Abstract:
Libya is seeking a solution to the Niger and Lockerbie tragedies, which involved two airliners being blown up, one over Africa, and the other over Scotland. Libyan leader, Muammar Qadaffi, has given signs that the extradition of two suspects may be allowed. They would be tried in the Netherlands, and by Scottish judges. This would lead to the suspension of economic sanctions against Libya. There is disagreement on a number of issues, such as whether sanctions should only end temporarily. Libya faces economic problems, including high unemployment.

Article Abstract:
Sanctions imposed by the UN on Libya until they extradite the two men suspected of bombing the Pan Am airliner over Scotland in 1988 have the Libyan people fearful of even further repercussions. Libya has sacrificed itself for the goal of Arab unity, and it has gotten them nowhere.
