Little guys, big fish: for these shark-hunters, the danger is the big boats
Article Abstract:
Villagers from Thoothoor near Trivandrum on India's southern tip fish for sharks but say the greatest threat they face is from foreign-built competitors. On some 600 ramshackle boats the locals venture into the deep sea in search of larger catches, though the peak volume came in 1990. So-called long-liners, $800,000 boats with govt subsidies, have moved into the area, and direct competition could come soon. The villagers want the govt to prevent that, and to offer coastal fishermen incentives for deep-sea work.

Liquid assets
Article Abstract:
Investment in fine wines is a gamble and affected by fashions. Asia has come to be a major consumer of the main five chateaux in Bordeaux, France. Wine is popular in Asia both as an investment and to drink. Investors should buy from reputable dealers and restrict themselves to Bordeaux red wines. They should keep in touch with news on the wine trade and store their wine properly. They can always drink their investment if it does not perform well.
