Living la vida loca
Article Abstract:
Male bisexuality is common in Latin America, and is linked with machismo, in that a man who copulates with another man may be seen as especially manly, while men who take on a female role are looked down on by macho men. Men can perceive themselves as heterosexual if they are active with other men, and this creates problems for wives, who may have high rates of venereal disease from their husbands' activities. Being obviously gay may be easier among poorer people where it is more difficult to hide one's sexual orientation. Women are often seen as asexual in a macho society, so can live together more easily with less suspicion that they might be gay.
