Overcoming obstacles to Segal-method building
Article Abstract:
Self-build housing schemes are becomming more popular despite the reluctance of local councils and financial institutions. The distinctive Segal-method of timer framed houses is being promoted by the charity, the Walter Segal Self Build Trust which acts as a support and information service to self build groups. Segal houses built in the 1960s have proved popular and structurally sound while the cost of self-build schemes makes them attractive as solutions to housing shortage. A new development of eight Segal houses is being built in Lewisham, London, England.
