Recent research show that babies that are placed to sleep on their back rather than their stomach are less prone to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). When parents were told to place their infants on their backs in Australia in the 80s, SIDS death dropped by 30%.

Medical spectroscopy is about to be introduced to physicians for use in diagnosing diseases, particularly colon cancer and coronary-artery disease. Spectroscopy has traditionally been used by astronomists for star gazing and, more recently, in analyzing pollution.
