Shanghai resurgent: city's champions see it as region's natural leader
Article Abstract:
Proponents of Shanghai expect it to lead the modernization of China and mediate the country's interaction with the West but divisions within its sphere of influence could jeopardize that development. The rest of China seems jealous as well, and references are rife to former stereotypes of the Shanghainese. The inland population and industrial muscle backing Shanghai are putatively among its strengths, but disagreements among local leaders and between them and national officials detract from that image.

There are also less expensive beer gardens where hot springs can be used for no charge. It is advisable to bathe before eating in order to develop an appetite.
