Los canales de TV tendran que emitir en digital en dos anos
Article Abstract:
The Spanish government is set to approve in July, 1998, a royal decree which will give TV stations two years to gradually adapt to digital broadcasting. Over an eight-year period, TV stations will also have to make their digital programmes compatible with analogue broadcasting. The consumer will thus have a period of ten years to switch from analogue TV sets to digital ones. The government is also said to be considering launching a programme to boost TV park renewal. In exchange for imposing the digital legislation, the government has given in to private TV's regarding territorial disconnection. To meet increased demand, private TV stations will be able to make certain disconnection when necessary. Complaints about the many new digital programmes surfacing have been made by private TV stations, Antena 3, Canal+ and Telecinco.

Las TV privadas se oponen a la creacion de una nueva plataforma digital
Article Abstract:
Private TV stations in Spain: Telecinco, Antena 3TV and Canal Plus have expressed their opposition, through their sector association Uteca, to plans by the government for a new terrestrial digital TV platform which will include some of the 15 new digital programmes. The government's plans are to grant to the five analogue stations approximately four or five programmes each, which will make up one of the multiplex channels. Another multiplex channel with a group of programmes would be given to either Canal Satelite or Via Digital, which are digital platforms. The remaining programmes will be awarded through a tender process. The private TV stations claim the government's plans will de-stabilise public television.
