Article Abstract:
A collaboration alliance to develop, manufacture and sell a high speed train has been signed between Spanish company Patentes Talgo and Adtranz. The train will have a maximum speed of 350 kilometres per hour and the prototype is scheduled to be available in February of the year 2000. Talgo will be in charge of developing and producing coaches while Adtranz will produce the engine, bogies, propulsion, control and communications systems. The outer structure and other mechanical equipment will be produced by Krauss Maffei of Germany. The amount to be committed to this deal by Talgo will be around Pta 6,000mn. Plans are to be able to bid for the Madrid-Barcelona-French border high speed railway project, whose first section (between Madrid and Lleida) is to be operational by the year 2002.

Talks are reportedly underway between Portuguese rail operator CP (Ferrocarriles de Portugal), Renfe of Spain and SCNF (Societe National del Chemis de Ferre) of France about a possible joint venture to set up a Lisbon-Paris connection, to revive the 'Expreso Sur' service famous in the WWI era. CP has announced that it is in talks with Spanish rolling stock producer, Talgo, about coaches worth US 194mn (Esc 35,000mn) for two trains to cover the 15-hour Lisbon-Paris line. Talks are to resume in September, 1998, according to the president of CP. The target date for operation of the new rail service would be the year 2000.

A Spanish company by the name of ACG Zaragoza has developed a mouse with number keys, aimed at making work easier for people who introduce numbers or figures as part of their data entry. The product, called Key Mouse, was developed jointly with Suvil Technolgies of Japan. The driver was developed in Spain. The product is said to be good for spreadsheets and accounting and management applications.
