Lost leaders
Article Abstract:
The economic downturn, declining profitability and greater shareholder demands are contributing to the uncertainty of the corporate executive's future. Whereas senior managers were assured lifetime careers with their companies in the past, changes in the business environment now make it virtually impracticable for employers to offer job security even to their top officers. Executive uncertainty is potentially harmful to organizational success. Managers who constantly have to worry about their own futures are bound to be more concerned about personal interests rather those of the company. Because of the high cost of an insecure executive, companies should select their top managers more carefully. They should choose executives who have a clear idea of their own professional development needs, have realistic aspirations and are confident of their ability to control their destinies.

Capturing corporate culture
Article Abstract:
Culture, defined as a perceived pattern of behavior and beliefs shared by members of a group, exerts a strong influence on business organizations. Astute mangers need to understand different cultures and their interactions in order to realize that corporate culture is sustained by unimpaired continuity. A knowledge of culture and its interaction within a business organization will lead a manager to avoid interfering with the corporate culture and irreparably damaging the business. Managers must understand that corporate culture must not be tinkered with, except by experts.
