Article Abstract:
The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has become weaker since the 1970s. Petroleum prices have dropped due to the Asian economic crisis and a warm winter in 1997 to 1998. Petroleum stocks should drop if OPEC members keep to targets, and this means that petroleum prices are likely to rise by the end of 1998. A recovery in Asia economies will also boost demand over the longer term. Non-OPEC supplies of petroleum are likely to become less plentiful from 2005.
