Active protection: providing a smarter shield for AFVs
Article Abstract:
Armored vehicles should be equipped with threat warning or detection sytems to avoid being hit. Several active protections systems have been developed to meet this purpose. Among the earlier threat-specific systems were laser warning receivers, infrared decoys or jammers and threat- specific laser decoys and dazzles, while hard kill systems that came into service included Russia's Drozd and Arena. The latest systems include the DMCD, the SLID and the WARNNALOC.

Seafire seeks to fill vehicle market gap
Article Abstract:
Seafire is slated to release Combat Support Vehicle Light (CSVL) to the market in early 2000, in response to the design needs of several NATO members. Co-developed by Mechem Consultants, the new model fills the gap between Land-Rover-type vehicles and the usual four- to five-ton-capacity trucks. The high-mobility vehicle prototype works with a 190kW General Motors 6.5-liter turbo diesel and a four wheel drive.
