The Mitchell Madison Group (MMG) of the US has offered a salary of $105,000 at the placement process of Calcutta's Indian Institute of Management (IIM). 317 students are participating in this year's placement process at IIM Calcutta while 110 companies have come forward to recruit the management graduates. Other leading companies who have outlined their offers before the placement are JM Morgan Stanley (Rs5.1 lakh), Deutsche Bank Global Markets ($70,000), I2 Technologies ($60,000) and Reuters Risk Management ($45,000-60,000). The rupee closed stronger at 42.44 against the dollar in the foreign exchange market on February 18, 1999 as banks unwound their long dollar positions. There was sufficient availability of dollars during the day at levels of 42.47 from exporters. The premium on September dollars closed at 184-186 paise on February 18, 1999. (khr)
