VPT TO BUILD ANOTHER BERTH
Article Abstract:
The Visakhapatnam Port Trust is planning to construct a second multi-purpose berth. The berth will be capable of accommodating vessels of 100,000 dead weight tonnes. It also plans to build another berth in the outer harbour, between the offshore tanker terminal and the LPG berth, to handle dry and liquid bulk cargo. The multi-purpose berth is expected to be commissioned in 2002 AD. A road will also be built to the two berths at an estimated cost of Rs5 crore. (khr)

JNPT HANDLES RECORD CONTAINER TRAFFIC IN AUG
Article Abstract:
The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust handled 60,382 twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs) of container traffic in August 1998. It handled 30,515 export TEUs and 29,867 import TEUs in the month. Container throughput was 259,994 TEUs in the first five months of 1998-99 against 203,424 TEUs in the corresponding period in 1997- 98. The port is expected to exceed the target of 550,000 TEUs fixed for 1998-99. (khr)
