MUMBAI SHIPYARD IS TURNING INTO ANOTHER ALANG
Article Abstract:
Mumbai port is turning into a ship-breaking yard like Alang in Gujarat. About 19 ships are waiting to be scrapped, of which 12 are at Raithy Bunder and the rest at Powder Bunder, Dharukhana area of the port. In the first quarter of 1998, more than 12 ships were scrapped. Mumbai Port Trust regulations are violated by ship-breakers. Oil, other pollutants, thermocol are discharged into the sea. Certificates from the pollution control cell of the Port Trust office is available easily. The port gets Rs3-4 crore a year from the ship-breaking activities. It charges a rent of Rs30,000 per day for each ship. (rk) ide continuous power supply. It has set up a road development fund. For providing loans to small scale industries, two new schemes have been launched. Single table clearance scheme has been implemented for fast approval of projects. THL TO ENTER PERFORMANCE CONTRACTING BUSINESS
Article Abstract:
Tata Honeywell Ltd, a joint venture between Tata Industries and Honeywell Corp of the US, has decided to enter the performance contracting business and plans to retro-fit energy efficient systems in hotels and hospitals. The company will be paid out of savings coming from the installation of the energy saving systems. Retro-fitted systems, especially power conservation systems, help to save up to 25 percent on power consumption. (khr)
