Made in Hong Kong? Territory feels U.S. heat in battle over textiles
Article Abstract:
The US is closely scrutinizing the countries of origin of imported garment and textiles to prevent the mislabeling of goods. Washington is particularly concerned about products coming from Hong Kong, fearing that they actually come from China and are further contributing to that country's already huge trade surplus with the US. The US Customs Service is proposing to send its agents to Hong Kong factories to ensure check whether garments and textiles really come from the British colony. Hong Kong officials are protesting this plan.
