Magazines' future now
Article Abstract:
Canada's magazine industry will not see an influx of US publishers in the near future even as Canada has agreed to open its market to foreign competition, according to media executives in a roundtable discussion. A few publishers are expected to enter the market, although most of them are not expected to publish a separate Canadian edition. A compromise agreement between the US and Canada requires foreign publishers that wish to substitute more than 12% of its ad space with domestic ads to publish a separate Canadian edition.

Marketing expands revenue ranking
Article Abstract:
'Marketing Magazine' is broadening the scope of its annual advertising agency revenue rankings in 2000 to include all companies operating within the Canadian marketing communications services industry. The rankings had previously included only firms with a core business of creating advertising and/or planning and placing the media purchasing for that work. Marketing Magazine's annual list has evolved, since its inception in 1982, to become the Canadian advertising industry's benchmark of agency size.

Loblaw kills PC Magazine
Article Abstract:
Loblaw will stop selling President's Choice Magazine after Dec 2000, following the demise of several other troubled retail publications. The decision was also spurred by the end of Loblaw's three-year contract with publishing house Zaxis PCM in Toronto, Ontario. Loblaw will instead focus its marketing dollars principally on demonstrations and in-store marketing, refocusing attention on its flyer, Insider's Report, and developing a PC Web site.
