Article Abstract:
Maintaining strategic momentum can be a considerable challenge for the chief executive officer of a large company, especially if there appear to be no strong arguments in favour of concerted action. It is very hard to balance stability and change, but a number of approaches can assist in dealing with this problem. It is not necessary for a company to be in a constant state of change, and successful change must in fact be based on stability if the company's future is to be secured.

The sequential path to transformation management

Organisational change is an extremely difficult process to manage. All aspects of the organisation must change, but this cannot be undertaken simultaneously. It is therefore necessary to establish a sequence of change, focusing on customer alignment and learning. Those managing change should avoid excessive reliance on traditional control systems.
