UK Prime Minister John Major unveiled his legislative program in his first speech in Parliament since his Apr 1992 election victory. Major's agenda includes limited constitutional reform, continuation of the privatization efforts begun under Margaret Thatcher, and new anti-union legislation.

Conservatives are split on the 1992 Treaty on European Union, commonly known as the Maastricht Treaty. Prime Minister John Major is in favor of the a single European market and has the leadership ability to get it ratified. The Conservative Party could split over the issue.
