The United Kingdom market for colour cosmetics and make-up is expected to fall 9% by value to 418 million pounds sterling by 1998 at constant 1993 prices. The market for colour cosmetics fell 2.3% by value to 460 million pounds sterling in 1993. Sales of facial make-up fell 1% to 177 million pounds sterling, although this remains the largest market sector. Sales of eye make-up fell 7% in 1993 and nail care product sales fell 2% by value to 40 million pounds sterling. Sales of lipstick grew 13% to 113 million pounds sterling. Boots' No 7 brand accounted for 12%, up from 11.5% in 1995. The premium brand sector was led by Estee Lauder in 1996, followed by Clinique, which is also made by Estee Lauder. Profits rose from 65.8 million in 1991 to 98.2 million in 1995 for Estee Lauder. Lip products accounted for 30.6% of total advertising expenditure in 1996.
