Making the most of a roof
Article Abstract:
Architect Michael Manser added a new floor and steel roof to his offices at Manser Associates on Hammersmith Bridge, London, in 1996. Original planning permission was granted five years previously but due to the recession the extension was not undertaken. When planning permission was re-applied for it was turned down, so time left on the original permission was used before it expired. The new floor and roof are constructed of glass and steel, enabling a curved enclosure structure to contrast with the floor below, which is rectangular.

Riverside surprise
Article Abstract:
UK housebuilder Octagon employed architect Broadway Malyan to design and build its new offices on the banks of the River Thames, near Hampton Court Palace, London. The chosen yellow bricks aided the exterior appearance to blend in with the local surroundings, while the usually designed building fitted in perfectly on the river bank. The architect specifically aimed for a nautical appearance on first entering the building.
