Market profile 4: dairy products in Belgium
Article Abstract:
Drinking milk production in Belgium fell 4.2% by volume to 694 million litres in 1998 from 1997. Full-fat drinking milk accounted for 35% of production in 1998, compared to 45% in 1990. Semi-skimmed milk production fell 5.4% to just less than 347 million litres during 1997-1998, while skimmed milk output rose 3.7% to 77 million litres. Powdered milk production grew 3.3% to 145,000 tonnes in 1998. Yoghurt production grew nearly 9% to just less than 216 million litres in 1998, while cream output increased 8.7%.
