The deodorant sector of the cosmetics and toiletries market in Hungary has reported sales of $35.4 million at current prices in 1997, up from $34.8 million in 1993. Deodorants, which accounted to 10.7% of the overall cosmetics and toiletries value sales in 1997 from 12.8% in 1993, are mostly in aerosol form and is more popular than antiperspirants. The sector posted sales growth of 1.7% during the review period with strong sales growth in the early part of the decade and weakening as 1997 approached. The negative shift of its popularity was caused by rising consumers' demand for higher quality products.

Toothpaste has dominated the oral hygiene sector of the cosmetics and toiletries market in Hungary with sales of $29 million in 1997, up by $24.2 million in 1993. The subsector, which accounted 73% of the overall oral hygiene sector in value terms, is followed by toothbrushes with $7 million in sales in 1997, up by 14.8% to $6.1 million in 1993. The toothbrush subsector accounted to 17.5% of the total oral hygiene market. Mouthwash and rinses ranked third with sales of $1.6 million in 1997, up by 23.1% from sales of $1.3 million in 1996.
