Marketing due diligence
Article Abstract:
Marketing aspects of mergers and acquisitions should be investigated as part of due diligence procedures, according to P Four Consultancy. Many conventional advisors are ill equipped to give guidance on marketing issues, P Four argues. Problems which can arise include conflicting brands. P Four is able to understand a business from the customer's viewpoint and this can be helpful with acquisitions across borders where the acquiror may not have much knowledge of the local market.

1995 to set cross border record
Article Abstract:
Mergers and acquisitions across national frontiers will increase in 1995, according to KPMG Peat Marwick. There was a 47% rise to more than 238 billion US dollars in 1994 in the value of such acquisitions compared with 1993. Increased activity is due to emergence from recession and greater optimism. China increased in importance as a target for such acquisitions in 1994, when joint ventures also increased in importance. Gas and oil was the sector which attracted most interest.

How long for US merger mania?
Article Abstract:
Mergers and acquisitions increased to record levels in the US in 1994 as the country recovered from the early 1990s recession. Companies have acquired competitors to reduce costs and increase earnings since low inflation and slow growth mean organic long-term growth is difficult. The volume of deals is likely to continue to be strong during 1995. Acquisitions in 1995 tend to be more conservative and also involve more equity than acquisitions of the 1980s.
