Media Edge, Publicis tops in spring wins

The Media Edge and Publicis Canada tied for the top spot in the list of advertising agencies with the biggest advertising contracts won for 2nd qtr 2000. The Media Edge garnered Molson Canada's C$50-million advertising account while Publicis won a similar account from CIBC. Closely following both ad agencies is Cossette Communication-Marketing, which snared the Quebec government's media buying account worth C$40 million. Placing fourth is Harrod & Mirlin/FCB, which took Compaq Canada's $26.1 million advertising account.

Microsoft Canada has rolled out its first major advertising campaign that is aimed at raising awareness of hte Canadian MSN site. The three TV spots, which launched on Sep 5, 2000, will run nationally in French and English for six weeks. Each spot focuses on a different service available on the msn.ca portal, namely, MSN Hotmail, MSN Messenger and MSN Search. They are intended for beginner and intermediate Internet users that are mostly in the 24 to 39 age group.

Publicis Canada wins Microsoft's $10M account

Advertising agency Publicis Canada has won Microsoft Canada's $10-million advertising account, which includes Microsoft's advertising, media, direct marketing and interactive marketing assignments. According to Microsoft executive Caroline Breton, Publicis won on the strength of its excellent strategic and creative thinking and the energy and passion it has for the business. The agency takes over Microsoft's agency-of-record assignment from Communique Group.
