Clark, the new CEO of pharmaceutical company Merck & Company Inc., is leading the company to greater profitability after a difficult period following the withdrawal of the painkiller Vioxx . Stock prices have returned to the level they were at before t he Vioxx withdrawal. Mr. Clark is setting, and achieving, high earnings expectations.

Managers at p harmaceutical company Merck & Company Inc. have been cleared of wrongdoing in an investigation into the marketing of the painkiller Vioxx. Merck is facing over 14,200 lawsuits, stating that Vioxx caused heart attacks and strokes. The investigation found th at Merck thought the drug was safe.
