The transformation of British broadcasting is accelerating. Pearson Inc bought program producer Thames Television, which should put a scare in the ITV network. Richard Branson started a national commercial radio station, Virgin 1215, which will take advertising share from BBC.

Standard and Poor's reports that the value of corporate debt downgraded in 1991 exceeded upgraded debt by over $350 million. Much of the downgraded debt is in auto and airline bonds. The median credit rating for US firms is now BB: speculative grade.
