Microfinance in cyberspace
Article Abstract:
PlaNet Finance is a project to use the Internet for microfinance schemes helping poorer people to set up businesses. Grameen Bank is an example of a microfinance institution, and operates in Bangladesh. Some 10,000 such institutions exist worldwide, though many are small and need more funds and skilled personnel. PlaNet Finance aims to provide expertise, capital and rating online. Lack of institutional capacity may be the key problem, and it is not clear that PlaNet Finance will solve this problem.
