Millennium marquee
Article Abstract:
Buro Happold are the recipients of the 1999 Royal Academy of Engineering MacRobert Award for their design of the Millennium Dome, Greenwich, England. The award, which includes a cash prize and medals for the winners, is presented annually for innovative engineering design. Buro Happold Team Leader Ian Liddell utilized the flat cable structure, which they had already used for two other buildings, for the Dome building. He points out such a structure could eventually be used to cover an area the size of a town and may also work in very hot or cold environments.
