Article Abstract:
The construction industry introduced excluded materials lists in the late 1980s to prevent the use of certain potentially harmful materials. The lists initially included products such as asbestos and high alumina cement, but recent lists require the exclusion of materials including acrylic primer, sodium chloride and Iberian slate.

Brick was the favored building material in England during the 1930s. Historians have incorrectly labeled the decade as a time when new building materials came into vogue, including glass and steel. A number of brick buildings built in the 1930s have recently been refurbished.
