Mixed feelings about the war
Article Abstract:
The press in Arab countries has tended to criticize the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for acting independently of the United Nations (UN). There is also sympathy for ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, and aid has been provided both by governments and individuals. Many Arabs are concerned that NATO action will not be effective, and four Arab countries, Iraq, Sudan, Libya and Lebanon, have been attacked by the US. Popular opinion favors action by Muslim countries or by the UN. Turkey, a Muslim but non-Arab country, does support NATO, however, though its own treatment of minorities has not been above criticism.

Victim of Serbia - or NATO?
Article Abstract:
Ethnic Albanians have been forced to leave their homes in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, in increasing numbers following the start of air attacks by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Russian prime minister, Yevgeny Primakov, has visited Yugoslavia and does not appear to have been successful in changing the attitude of the Yugoslav president, Slobodan Milosevic. NATO should seek to control Kosovo rapidly, then manage it as a protectorate, allowing the return of refugees. Ground troops may have to be used to ensure that the Serbs leave Kosovo.
