Modeling Product Positions Through the Use of Multidimensional Scaling Techniques: An Empirical Investigation
Article Abstract:
Two perspectives on market modeling for king sized cigarettes in the United Kingdom are analyzed. One concentrates on ideas regarding brand similarities as measured by multidimensional scaling techniques. The other model handles brand perceptions with a set of seventeen bipolar attributes. That set and the perceptions are used to model the market using internal property fitting analysis. Independent samples are used to compare the two model's results. The models' internal validity is analyzed. Tables of brand and attribute data are featured, as are tables of stress and dimensional solution data and interpoint correlation coefficients.

Revisiting the issue of model validation in OR: an epistemological view
Article Abstract:
Model validation in operations research has been affected by the dominant perspective used in the production of scientific knowledge. In the 20th century, three epistemological perspectives have been developed, the philosophical, historical and sociological perspectives. It is shown that the variance in perspectives prevents the development of a universal method guaranteeing the scientificity of models in OR. Finally, contemporary epistemology is shown to have considerable effect on OR and situates it in the global social field.

The OR/MS contribution to maintenance management
Article Abstract:
The stated perception that there exists a large gap between operations research (OR) management system and maintenance management was criticized in the light of long-standing use of the technique in actual applications. An evaluation of OR as an information methodology for maintenance management engineers was considered short-sighted by ignoring the fact that practitioners were also technologists. The application of OR for improving maintenance management performance was used to refute the initial statements.
