Microsoft is trying to capture the one software market it does not already dominate by distributing its Internet browser for free, causing cries of antitrust violations from browser innovator Netscape. Microsoft should be watched, but so far the market remains open, and consumers have not suffered.

Collateral damage: Sun Microsystems
Article Abstract:
Sun Microsystems is one of the biggest backers of Netscape because Netscape has adopted Sun's Java programming language. Therefore Sun is trying to fend off Microsoft's aggressive entry into the Web browser market. However, even if Microsoft does gain dominance, Java will probably survive.
