Monopoly pricing with network externalities
Article Abstract:
The occurrence of introductory pricing offered by a monopoly for a durable good was analyzed in terms of the presence of network externality on a group of rational consumers. It was hypothesized that network externalities increased the prices of goods over time. It was discovered that there is a direct relation between introductory pricing and network externalities. Discounted prices did not increase in the absence of network externalities although discounted prices increased over time.
